And now to the REAL reason I created this blog: Geek stuff! 😂 I have been spamming my Instagram with photos and videos from GalaxyCon Raleigh (formerly Supercon Raleigh) but there's only so much you can say in a quick Instagram caption. Here I can be long winded, gushing about my happy place, an event that makes me feel so completely myself, and a group of friends that make me feel loved and accepted - no exceptions.
GalaxyCon this year was 4 days from Thursday-Sunday and, like the previous 2 years, 2019 did NOT disappoint. I'm breaking these posts up, one for each day, because we managed to do A LOT each day. I have too many good stories and photos and videos and I can't wait to share all the amazing memories! You can find Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in these posts.

Since we live in Raleigh, we always hit up some free parking and walk downtown! Here's the walk in about 60 seconds:
THURSDAY: Thanks to ongoing issues with my car, we got a little bit of a later start, but it worked out fine since most of the celebs meet & greet's and panels weren't until Friday/Saturday/Sunday. We used Thursday to get the lay of the land since my anxiety is not a huge fan of lots of people in one space AND my Type A-ness loves having a solid plan ahead of time. If you're ever on the fence about getting the full weekend pass to a con like this, it really helped having that slower day to figure out where we needed to go on the other 3 days for panels, who was seated by whom, and what were the quickest ways to get to all of them! Plus, we got to visit some of our favorite vendors like Amourable Art and Horror Show Jack. The highlight of Thursday though was heading to the Judith Hoag Q&A panel.
You might remember Judith Hoag as April O'Neil in the 1990 movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the ONLY April IMO). She is, hands down, the most down to earth celebrity I have ever met. She talked about her favorite pizza and the Disney/Pixar movies that make her cry.
One of the great things about this Con is that 90% of the time, you can wait in line at a guests table and they will absolutely talk to you for a few minutes, even if you can't afford a selfie or autograph. Judith Hoag was not only one of those people, she was one of my favorites. She talked with us about anything and everything; her views on "the fucked up gift" and how we need to take the con environment and bring it to the outside world are things that will stay with me. Whenever we noticed she didn't have a large line, we hopped over to say hi, thank you for coming, and asked about her current move to Nashville. We talked about running, Toy Story 4, and how she feels so grateful for a platform to connect with people genuinely as we each have "my day". I hope we get to see her again because she's truly a joy to be around. Also, I swear the woman doesn't age!
I'm glad they added an extra day this year because it was nice to ease your way into Con weekend vs being thrown in headfirst! Next up: Friday!

[NOTE: My filming skills leave a lot to be desired. I tried my best 😐]
